24 June 2006 : Unicorn Theatre wins RIBA Award 2005

Keith Williams’ Unicorn Theatre has won a prestigious Royal Institute of British Architects’ RIBA Award 2005.

The 71 buildings (around sixty in the UK, the rest around Europe) to receive the award from the Royal Institute of British Architects for quality design have been announced. RIBA Awards are only given to the very best buildings which are recognised for their high architectural standards and their contribution to their local environment.

Keith Williams commented, ”That the Unicorn has received an RIBA Award is a great testament to the ambition and energy of the Unicorn as client as well as the design team at Keith Williams Architects. These awards are extremely difficult to win and are only given to the very best projects in the country. The Unicorn is a radical building for a very exciting theatre company whose work is dedicate do bringing exceptional theatre to children and young people. It is a unique organisation with a unique building and it is right that its success has been celebrated in this way”

The project is now eligible to go forward for the Stirling Prize.

Keith Williams and Ron Spinney CBE chairman of the Unicorn Theatre and the property company Hammerson plc, received the award at the ceremony at London’s Hilton last night, 23 June.
