RTF Future Talks in conversation with Keith R Williams, was an interview and discussion conducted recently by RTF, a Global Platform for Architecture and Design.
Keith participated as part of RTF’s Rethinking the Future series, which it describes as …” conversations with the visionaries who turn ideas into spaces and experiences that shape our world, aiming to foster an essential dialogue between design professionals, media, and readers, through interesting and unheard stories, insights, and perspectives”.
The key topics were wide ranging, enabling Keith to set out his views on matters as diverse as the evolution of the architectural world since the start of his career and his thoughts on design philosophy. He spoke of the profound influence of key buildings on his thinking such as the Villa Savoye by Le Corbusier and the German Pavilion for the 1929 Barcelona Expo by Mies van der Rohe.
The changing perhaps diminishing role and influence of the architectural critic was also considered, with Keith reaffirming what he sees as the important role that the best critics fulfil in holding up a mirror to architecture and the society that it serves.
Motivation and the will to keep designing and making buildings, and the journey of exploration and discovery that is inherent the design process were touched on as was the involvement of the community at the early design stage.
Thoughts on global architecture in the coming decade, touching on pressing issues such as the Climate Change emergency and Sustainability were also explored, rounding off the article.
